Google Makes Mobile a Must

In April, Google released a significant update to boost the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results. According to an article on Google’s Webmaster Central Blog, this means it is now easier for users to find high-quality and relevant results where text is readable and avoids horizontal scrolling.
You can be assured, Eighty6 has been preparing for this update and is fully compliant. In fact, we’ve been creating compliant websites for our clients for years.

Double Header – March

One of our favorite iPad apps, Flipboard, is now available everywhere. Flipboard serves up content found around the web in a magazine style layout.

We thought we’d take this opportunity to create our own. Check out our March issue. You’ll find techy, nerdy, lifestyle articles to enjoy.

Meet Joey

Our internship dreams came true this past fall when Joey Spagnuolo came knocking at the Eighty6 door. We welcomed our very first intern and it’s been a fun ride ever since. While we don’t have Joey fetching us cups of coffee or making copies, we do have this creative, fun, and intelligent guy breathing some life into our Wednesdays. Check out his YouTube channel where he reviews lifestyle products, apps, and more: Geek Plug

Book Recommendation: Rework

What’s on our reading list for 2015? A re-read of Rework! This book inspired the very founding of Eighty6.

“With its straightforward language and easy-is-better approach, Rework is the perfect playbook for anyone who’s ever dreamed of doing it on their own.”

Back on Campus

To kick off the fall 2014 semester, Kean University approached Eighty6 to lead the charge in running the digital side of Kean Xpedition, the immersive social gaming experience targeted at fostering campus awareness. Featuring live events along with social media campaigns, Xpedition gives away awesome prizes to students including a Grand Prize free semester. Seriously. We were totally stoked to take this on, as having a hand in providing a fun and interactive experience on a college campus is a dream come true.

We dove in and created:

  • Kean Xpedition Branding
  • The Xpedition website which we continued to maintain and update
  • 9 social media contests that ran through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and included graphic design, written content, and management
  • Multiple advertising campaigns to draw more interest and interaction with the Kean Xpedition contests, events, and overall presence

We’re Designing a Block

Our branding expertise is taking us in directions we never dreamed of. Recently we were brought into a really exciting project and we just have to share it with you.

We are currently in the process of designing a storefront block near the Rutgers Newark campus. We are branding a row of five restaurants that will cater to Rutgers students right where they live. Our work for these restaurants includes complete branding packages, outdoor signage, digital menu boards, and print materials like menus and other collateral.

To be able to make a mark in such a huge way is truly exciting for us. Most of these restaurants are brand new and entrusted Eighty6 to take them from just a concept to giving them a voice and a look as an entirely branded entity.

Take a look at our 3D concepts that give a glimpse of what the corner of University Ave & Bleeker St could soon look like in Newark.

We Support: ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

As summer came to an end this year, buckets of ice water were being poured over people’s heads across the country. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge swept across our social media feeds until it finally came knocking on the Eighty6 door.

Jay accepted the challenge (he used 3 different cameras to capture it) and announced our donation to the Joan Dancy and PALS Foundation. Joan Dancy & PALS provides direct grants for products and services to ALS patients in Monmouth and Ocean County, NJ. We were happy to raise awareness and funds for this cause.

Summer of Eighty6

It’s summer. We love summer. So why wait until summer is over to share what we did on summer vacation? Let’s check in with the team at Eighty6 to see how we’re enjoying the golden days of summer right here and now…

We Support: The V Foundation

To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.

-Jim Valvano

These are surely words to live by. We know we are amongst many who have found truth in these words spoken by the late great Jim Valvano. And just as these words have given us purpose, comfort, and wisdom we want to give as well. Supporting The V Foundation for Cancer Research is important to us and we are proud to be a part of this community. Guided by an elite, all-volunteer Scientific Advisory Committee, The V Foundation has funded more than $115 million in cancer research grants nationwide to more than 120 facilities nationwide.
